BIOGRAPHY

With a career spanning almost 30 years, YANISS ODUA has established himself as one of the leading figures on the French reggae scene. A native of Martinique, he has left his mark on several generations with cult tracks such as La Caraïbe, Rouge Jaune Vert and Chalawa, which have now amassed over 120 million views on YouTube. His energy on stage, his commitment and his ability to unite a large audience have made him a pillar of the contemporary reggae scene. His albums have received critical acclaim (Télérama, Le Monde, RFI, TV5, Mouv’...), and his latest concert at Cabaret Sauvage was captured by France Télévisions for broadcast on Culturebox.

A committed artist, Yaniss denounces injustice frankly, but always in a positive spirit. For him, music is a means of awakening consciences while giving strength to those who listen to it. From Yon Pa Yon (2002) to Stay High (2022), via Moment Idéal (2013) and Nouvelle Donne (2017), he has always been able to combine content and form, with vivid lyrics set against polished productions rooted in reggae but open to modernity. His high artistic standards have led him to collaborate with some of the best: the legendary Clive Hunt (Jimmy Cliff, Alpha Blondy, Stevie Wonder, Rolling Stones, Grace Jones...), as well as young talents such as the Elevation duo (Kahifa & Kevin Kay). Always on the lookout for new vibes, he has shared tracks with Ky-Mani Marley, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Danakil, Dub Inc, Kalash, Keny Arkana, Flavia Coelho... His new album, Mon Frère (June 13, 2025), was born of a strong bond with FNX, a 19-year-old artist whom Yaniss discovered at the age of 14. Impressed by a self-produced clip that the young man from Nice had sent him during convalescence from a knee injury, he invited him to play a verse on his Stay High album, and then to join him on stage. From this relationship of trust, a real joint project was born. Today, FNX divides his time between a career as a professional footballer and a passion for music. Able to navigate with ease between reggae, rap and urban pop, he brings a fresh, contemporary outlook to this album. Mon Frère is an album of conviction and emotion, about resilience, brotherhood and commitment. A sincere, luminous album that brings together two generations, two voices, one spirit.
