BIOGRAPHY
NATTY JEAN, a native of Senegal, began his career on the Dakar hip-hop scene and local productions. He is quickly attracted by reggae and its more swaying rhythms that he mixes with rap and african influences, in the tradition of artists like DIDIER AWADI who also invites him on his album "MA REVOLUTION". A choice that will quickly lead him to the studios of MANJUL, a famous French producer based in Mali (albums "DUB TO MALI", DANAKIL, TAKANA ZION, BISHOP ...) which produced his first album "SANTA YALLA" (2012).
It is also in Mali, in 2011, that NATTY JEAN meets the members of the band DANAKIL who immediately spot his singular voice and invite him to participate in their album "ECHOS DU TEMPS" as well as in the tour that will result from this. In a short time, NATTY JEAN imposed himself within the band and becomes a full member of the group, accompanying the singer BALIK and his 9 musicians on the most beautiful stages of the world (Francofolies de La Rochelle, Olympia and Zenith of Paris, Paleo Festival, the Francofolies of Montreal...). This is an opportunity for him to offer some of his songs live and to build up a loyal audience. In parallel with DANAKIL, NATTY JEAN continues his solo career and releases his second album "IMAGINE" in October 2018. An explicit title that reflects the desire of the singer to bring a touch of hope from Africa. Written in Wolof, French and English, his lyrics offer a panorama of the state of West African youth, their concerns, their dreams, and their openness to the world, far from miserabilistic clichés. Committed and concerned, like artists like TIKEN JAH FAKOLY or ALPHA BLONDY who are clearly his elders, NATTY JEAN defends a strong Africa that has everything it needs to grow and develop on its own. Produced by YOVO M'BOUEKE (Alain Bashung, Alpha Blondy, Rachid Taha, Amadou & Mariam...), mixed by GODWIN LOGIE (Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, Ismael Lo...), with the participation of the undisputed master CHEICK TIDIANE SECK in the arrangements (Salif Keita, Mory Kanté, Jimmy Cliff, Carlos Santana...), this new album puts African reggae back in the spotlight. With Afro roots and sometimes very urban sounds, the tracks are punctuated by the amazing voice of NATTY JEAN who sings and accelerates his flow with strength and accuracy. A sound tale of modern times, between Africa, Europe and the Caribbean. 2021, NATTY JEAN releases a new album with DANAKIL, the opportunity to meet again his adopted team and to play again concerts, in particular 2 Olympias sold out in spite of this so particular context of the health crisis. A period during which NATTY JEAN also tries his hand at other styles, other flows, other sonorities. Surrounded by new beatmakers, he created a new universe, more Afro, more Hip-Hop, with lyrics resolutely turned towards his country, Senegal, but which resonate far beyond, by their universality. A project to follow very closely, and which is scheduled for the fall of 2022.
