Dezarie is recognized worldwide as one of the most powerful and spiritual female voices in roots reggae. Through her music, she conveys the strength of her African heritage, the Rastafarian faith, and a message of justice, love, and resistance. Her authenticity and the power of her artistic expression have been celebrated by audiences and critics alike for over 25 years.
Originally from St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Dezarie has built a remarkable career deeply rooted in the Virgin Islands’ vibrant reggae culture. She has collaborated with the Midnite band, sharing and contributing to the distinctive sound that has become an important part of her musical journey. Throughout her career, Dezarie has received numerous awards and has been acclaimed on the stages of major international festivals in Europe, the United States, the Caribbean, and South America. Her live performances are true spiritual celebrations, where her voice—both tender and powerful—guides the audience on a journey of awareness, healing, and connection. Her setlists include classics such as “Gracious Mama Africa,” “Don’t Cry,” “Fya,” and “Love in Your Meditation,” which have moved audiences around the world. In 2026, Dezarie began a new chapter in his career with the back-to-back releases of the EP 7th Heaven in July and the album Power Shift in September. 7th Heaven is produced by Fikir Amlak (a singer, producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist specializing in roots reggae and dub). This profound and meditative project reflects her unwavering commitment to the spiritual foundations of roots reggae and particularly showcases her expressive voice. In addition to its rapid release, Power Shift is striking for Dezarie’s relentless, almost hypnotic and incantatory delivery—far more incisive than what we’ve come to expect from her—and for the rich compositions by ZionLab. The work of these Brazilian musicians is more digital and edgy, even incorporating Eastern sounds, in perfect synergy with Dezarie’s vocal and lyrical mastery.
